The Apprenticeship:

The honey bees are calling for a different approach to beekeeping.  They are asking for us to be stewards, guardians, and companions.  They are asking us to heal our selves and be present to who they are.  They are humming the song of the earth, and asking us to listen.

Guided by the feminine principle, this 10-month online apprenticeship follows the deep vein of honey bee animism and natural beekeeping practices to explore your relationship with honey bees, self, and the Earth.

Much more than a how-to program on beekeeping, this course explores the nuances of what it means to be a bee guardian in the modern age, how to communicate and listen to the bees in creative and non-linear ways, and methods for tending to bee hives from bee-centric model.

Through exploration of the the folk pathways and history of the sacred bee, you will learn how embodied, womb-centric teachings and modalities can support you in healing, creativity, intuition, and your relationship to the more-than-human world.

Each Module encompasses the entire month

Each month’s theme will center around an aspect of the hive, an aspect of the sacred feminine, and a key animistic practice. These will be shared on the monthly call, through the monthly walk, and on the online learning portal.

Monthly Session - 3 hrs on Zoom (required): This call sits at the heart of the program. Here is where we are woven together as a hive. Most sessions will be a fusion of animistic practices, sharing, and beekeeping knowledge. As a rule, we work with the practice of moving between the left and right brain, or linear and non-linear learning.

Monthly guided movement meditation: The Lemniscate Volatus is a core practice connecting us to bee wisdom and our guides. It involves walking in the symbol bees fly and dance in - a figure eight. Much like labyrinth walking, or repetitive dance, the movement can take us into an altered state, and support the realm of “seeing”. Here is where the hive sisterhood weaves with the inner landscape of the imaginal, somatic, and spiritual.

Weekly Material: Most weeks, a supplemental article, podcast, or video resource will be offered for additional learning, to be undertaken at your own pace.

Three virtual hive gatherings: meet with your hive sisterhood for exploration of practices and sharing (attendance optional).

Apprenticeship Reading: Three required reading books

• Guest Teachers: Some sessions will include guest teachers, including Sylvia V. Linsteadt, Megan McGuire, and Cheyanna Bone.

Ultimately, whether you keep bees in 2024 or not, this program is rooted in spiritual ecology and is designed to deepen your relationship with the bees and the living earth.  In doing so, you will also experience your own opportunities for healing and reconnecting with earthly and ancestral wisdom.

Meet Ariella

Ariella is a teacher, beekeeper, musician, and writer living in Northern California. She is extensively trained in the gynocentric ways of European Bee Animism as it was taught by Naomi Lewis in the UK. Due to recent scandal, the history and veracity of bee shamanism is currently being investigated, and while the nature of her work is subsequently changing, Ariella remains committed to womb wisdom and the sacred teaching of the bee. If you want to know more about the scandal, please click here.

Ariella brings a fusion of natural beekeeping methods with animistic techniques to support your growth as a beekeeper and person.

In her fifth year teaching long-form women’s beekeeping apprenticeships, Ariella will combine some of her favorite aspects of her in-person program with her virtual program to create an offering for online education that ultimately takes you away from the screen and out onto the land.

Her approach to beekeeping falls under the labels of natural and bee-centric beekeeping. She is driven by the relationship between beekeeper and bees, what we can learn from the hive as a wise, sentient being. With a background in folklore and ancient history, Ariella suffuses her work with myth and folk wisdom, but is ultimately interested in supporting you to discover your own innate wisdom as a woman of the earth and stars.
